Fort Smith to replace bridge on Jenny Lind Road
A busy section of Jenny Lind Road between Harvard Drive and the southbound on/off ramps at Interstate 540 will be temporarily closed starting June 15.
The removal and replacement of the Jenny Lind Road bridge over Mill Creek, set to start June 15, will require the temporary closing. The project is expected to be completed Aug. 1. Detours will be marked.
Mobley Contractors will be working on the approximated $1.7 million construction project that includes resurfacing of the Jenny Lind Road street surface from Harvard Drive to Market Trace.
The 2019 Average Daily Traffic (ADT) on Jenny Lind Road just north of I-540 is 8,300. The project was scheduled during the summer months because traffic is lighter when school is not in session, said Stan Snodgras, director of Engineering for the City of Fort Smith.
The city committed $29 million from 2016 to 2019 on a now completed major improvement project involving Jenny Lind from Zero Street to Cavanaugh, which included improvements from Ingersoll Avenue to U.S. 271 and the extension of Ingersoll from Jenny Lind to U.S. 71B.
