Regional transmission organization Midcontinent Independent System Operator (MISO) of Carmel, Ind., announced Wednesday (April 15) it’s selected Daryl Brown to lead its South region office based in Little Rock after a nationwide search.

Brown, who has nearly 30 years of experience in the energy and electric industry, will serve as the primary internal and external leader for MISO’s South regional operations, customer management and government relations. He is also a member of the company’s executive team and oversees the south regional customer integration efforts focusing on extending and protecting the value of the organization.

“I am excited to be selected to lead the MISO South team where I have already received a warm welcome by an outstanding group of professionals,” Brown said. “In addition to MISO’s commitment to operate the grid reliably and efficiently, we strive to maintain an open and collaborative dialogue with our customers and external stakeholders. The company already has a great team in place in the South, and I’m thrilled to be selected to lead the team.”

Brown, a Mississippi native, began his career at Southern Company in 1993 and led teams at the Mississippi Power Company and Georgia Power Company for 23 years. Since then, he has worked in leadership positions at Current, a GE company, and Hitachi Global Social Innovation Business in Atlanta.

“Daryl has a proven track record that includes the right mix of leadership skills and industry knowledge making him the right person to lead our South team,” said Todd Hillman, senior vice president and chief customer officer. “He has a very important job, and I’m confident he will be successful.”

Brown earned a bachelor’s degree in industrial engineering from Mississippi State University and served in the Army National Guard and Army Reserve for 17 years before he was honorably discharged as a major.

MISO is a nonprofit organization that delivers electricity to 15 U.S. states and the Canadian province of Manitoba. It operates one of the largest energy markets with more than $29 billion in annual gross market energy transactions.
