Gov. Asa Hutchinson announced Wednesday (Dec. 18) his intention to appoint Jim Hinkle of Conway to the Arkansas State Police Commission.

Hinkle will replace Bob Burns. His term will begin on January 15, 2020, and expire on January 14, 2027.

“Jim has been a success in business but has always found time to give back by engaging in public service,” Hutchinson said. “Jim’s commitment to the state police and his history of service will make him an outstanding commissioner.”

Hinkle is a former member of the Arkansas Aeronautics Commission and a former member of the Arkansas Game and Fish Commission, where he spent the final two years of his term as vice-chairman and chairman.

He served on the board of the National Wild Turkey Federation for 14 years and became president of the national chapter of the organization. During that time, he worked for the expansion and improvement of habitat throughout the United States, Mexico, and Canada through various National Wild Turkey Federation initiatives. He was inducted into the Arkansas Outdoor Hall of Fame in 2018.

Hinkle and his family formerly owned Mountain View Telephone Company and Bank of Mountain View.

He is currently on the board of directors for Home BancShares in Conway.

“Public safety is government’s first responsibility. I am humbled and thankful to Governor Hutchinson for this opportunity to serve the people of this state by supporting the exceptional members of the Arkansas State Police who have taken an oath to protect and serve us all,” Hinkle said.
