Speaker Shepherd names committee assignments, chairs

Speaker of the House Matthew Shepherd, R-El Dorado, used a powerful new chamber rule for the first time on Monday to name the committee assignments and chairpersons for the various House committees.

In previous sessions, the speaker had control of the chairperson assignments, but members used a seniority system to select committee memberships. In this session, the speaker maintained control of the committee assignments.

The committee chair assignments that Shepherd outlined include:
