Dan Binder, analyst with Jefferies & Company, is joining Walmart as vice president of investor relations replacing Steve Schmitt. Walmart announced the new hire on Friday (July 13), saying Binder would report directly to Brett Biggs, executive vice president and chief financial officer.

“We’re excited about the wealth of investor knowledge and more than 25 years of experience that Dan will bring to Investor Relations as well as to our global finance team,” noted Robyn Babbitt, corporate spokeswoman for Walmart.

Binder has been covering Walmart and the retail sector since 2004. He has also worked as an analysts at Buckingham Research Group, Brown Brothers Harriman & Co. as well as Morgan Stanley Dean Witter.

Schmitt recently transitioned to Sam’s Club as a senior vice president and chief financial officer. Prior to joining Walmart, Schmitt led the investor relations team at Yum! Brands, parent company of Kentucky Fried Chicken and Taco Bell.
