U.S. Surgeon General to speak on drug to treat opioid overdoses
U.S. Surgeon General Jerome Adams will speak Thursday (April 12) at the Arkansas Department of Health (ADH) and the University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences (UAMS) in Little Rock. He will discuss his public health advisory urging more Americans to carry naloxone, a lifesaving medication that can reverse the effects of an opioid overdose.
Adams will speak from 8 to 9 a.m. in the ADH Public Health Grand Rounds at the Dr. Joseph H. Bates Professional Education Auditorium, Arkansas Department of Health, 4815 W. Markham St., in Little Rock, according to a news release. He will also speak from noon to 12:45 p.m. in the Sam Walton Auditorium on the 10th floor of the Winthrop P. Rockefeller Cancer Institute at UAMS, 4301 W. Markham St., in Little Rock.
Adams’ presentation will be “Better Health through Better Partnerships,” and Adams is recommending more people, including family, friends and those at risk for an opioid overdose to carry naloxone, the release shows. ADH will live stream the Public Health Grand Rounds through the Arkansas Department of Health Facebook page. Adams is a guest of the ADH, UAMS and the Arkansas Minority Health Commission (AMHC). ADH, the Fay W. Boozman College of Public Health at UAMS and the Arkansas Center for Health Improvement jointly sponsor Public Health Grand Rounds each week to provide education to employees and healthcare professionals in Arkansas.
