ATU selects Cezeaux as dean of College of Engineering
Arkansas Tech University in Russellville has hired Dr. Judy Cezeaux, chair of biomedical engineering at Western New England University for the past decade, as its new dean of the College of Engineering and Applied Sciences.
Pending approval by the Arkansas Tech Board of Trustees, Cezeaux will on the role June 18.
“Dr. Cezeaux emerged very early in our search as the leading candidate in a very strong pool of applicants,” Dr. Phillip Bridgmon, ATU associate vice president for academic affairs, said in a press release. “The search committee was very impressed by her diverse experiences and clear vision for leading our College of Engineering and Applied Sciences. Her campus visit was well received, and we look forward to the contributions she will make to interdisciplinary collaboration, extending the relationships of the college, shared governance and helping the college move forward in additional areas they have identified.”
A native of Houston, Texas, Cezeaux holds a bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering from Carnegie Mellon University and a Ph.D. in biomedical engineering from Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute. She began her career as a postdoctoral researcher at the University of Kentucky before serving as associate professor of mechanical and space engineering at the University of Tennessee from 1991 to 2000.
Cezeaux then joined Western New England University, assuming the duties of associate professor of mechanical and biomedical engineering. She was promoted to chair of biomedical engineering in 2008.
“I am honored to have been chosen as the next dean of the Arkansas Tech University College of Engineering and Applied Sciences,” Cezeaux said in the release. “I look forward to working with the faculty, staff and administration of the university to continue the tradition of educational excellence as we prepare students to meet society’s challenges in Arkansas and beyond.”
Cezeaux will succeed Dr. Wayne B. Powell, who came to ATU this past November to serve as interim dean of the college.
