Healthy Active Arkansas launches new website
Healthy Active Arkansas (HAA), a nonprofit seeking to increase the number of Arkansans at a healthy weight, has launched a new website, called healthyactive.org.
The website was unveiled Monday (Feb. 5) at a news conference at the Arkansas Regional Innovation Hub in North Little Rock. It features descriptions of each of HAA’s nine priority areas, resources for individuals, community leaders, educators and other stakeholders, as well as an interactive map, progress tracker and news section.
The site will also connect people with resources and organizations that can help make healthy eating and physical activity more accessible.
“We at the Department of Health are invested in the success and support of Healthy Active Arkansas with a shared goal of increasing the percentage of children, adolescents and adults who are at a healthy weight,” said Stephanie Williams, deputy director of public health programs at the Arkansas Department of Health.
The website was funded by a Blue & You Foundation for a Healthier Arkansas grant.
HAA has partnered with several of organizations in the public and private sector, including government agencies, health care providers and community organizations.
Officials say 1 out of every 3 Arkansans is obese. People with obesity are more likely to have serious health problems such as high blood pressure, diabetes, stroke, cancer, heart disease and arthritis.
