Subway Restaurants in Fort Smith and Fayetteville raised $10,000 in September for Arkansas Children’s Northwest. The restaurants gave 6% of all Turkey foot long sales in September to the 233,613-square-foot pediatric hospital, under construction west of Interstate 49 in Springdale. On Monday (Oct. 13), the company announced the donation.

“We’re thrilled to support such an important medical addition to the local community,” said Subway franchisee Russell Rogers, owner of 20 Subway restaurants in the Fort Smith and Fayetteville area. “Subway Restaurants are locally-owned and operated by franchisees who care about the community and look to support essential projects and programs that benefit our friends, family and neighbors where they live, learn and play.”

When it opens in 2018, the hospital will have the first and only pediatric emergency department always open in the region, according to a news release. It will include 24-pediatric inpatient rooms and five pediatric surgical rooms.

“Arkansas Children’s Northwest is so grateful for the support of Subway and the Northwest Arkansas community,” said Erica Phillips, senior development officer for Arkansas Children’s Foundation. “We are so excited to be able to bring care close to home, impacting hundreds of thousands of precious children in this area of our state.”
