Arkansas Forestry Commission has moved its operations
The Arkansas Forestry Commission (AFC) has moved from its former location on Roosevelt Road to join other agencies of the Arkansas Agriculture Department (AAD) at the AAD headquarters complex at 1 Natural Resources Drive. This move allows the executive staff to join the Arkansas State Plant Board and the Arkansas Livestock and Poultry Commission, and other offices and programs under the Arkansas Agriculture Department, in a centralized location. The move was announced Monday (Oct. 23).
“The Arkansas Forestry Commission’s decision to move its state headquarters from its home of the past 59 years to consolidate with other state agencies in one building shows the leadership and spirit of cooperation that will allow Arkansas to operate its government more efficiently,” Gov. Asa Hutchinson said. “I applaud the commission for making this change.”
The move is just one of several efforts the AAD has undertaken as part of governor’s efforts to increase efficiency in state government. Since January 2015, entities within the AAD have collaborated to achieve greater efficiency by merging administrative functions such as fiscal, human resources, and information technology resources, consolidating websites, and improving the utilization of technology and physical assets across the department.
“We are excited to be in the same Little Rock location with administrative staff and our sister agencies within the Arkansas Agriculture Department,” State Forester Joe Fox said. “Our former office on Roosevelt Road served as the headquarters for the Arkansas Forestry Commission for almost 60 years and was built with wood products donated by hardwood and pine sawmill companies across the state. The history and memories from that location will not be forgotten as we continue our leadership in the forestry community while finding new and better ways to partner with others throughout our state’s entire agriculture industry.”
All contact information for AFC county and program officials outside of the Little Rock office remains the same. Link here for contact information and a list of available resources for the Arkansas Agriculture Department and its respective agencies.
The mission of the Arkansas Forestry Commission is to protect Arkansas’s forests, and those who enjoy them, from wildland fire and natural hazards while promoting rural and urban forest health, stewardship, development, and conservation for all generations of Arkansans. The Arkansas Forestry Commission is a part of the Arkansas Agriculture Department.
