Wal-Mart to host nationwide health fair Saturday

Wal-Mart Stores will hold its annual wellness day event at 4,700 of its U.S. stores on Saturday (Sept. 23) from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. local time. Supercenters and Neighborhood Market locations across Northwest Arkansas are among those taking part in this year’s event.

The retailer said in June it was teaming up with the American Diabetes Association to extend support for customers whose screening indicated greater risk of this disease. There are an estimated 8 million people with diabetes who are undiagnosed. Arkansas ranks fourth in the nation for the highest rate of type 2 Diabetes as 33.9% of the state’s kids between the age of 10-17 are at risk for the disease because of their weight.

Wal-Mart said free health screenings will be available at this year’s events including blood pressure and diabetes checks.
