View Arkansas highway system from nearly 100 cameras
The Arkansas Department of Transportation is offering live views of the state highway system via nearly 100 cameras. On Tuesday (Aug. 29), the highway department announced people could view the cameras via its IDrive Arkansas website.
The state highway department owns about 28 of the cameras, and it has partnered with adjacent states, cities and TV stations to offer more views of state highways. “In all, there are fewer than 100 cameras currently available, and that number is expected to grow significantly,” according to the highway department.
People can find the traffic camera feature by accessing the traffic section of IDrive Arkansas. The feature is represented by an icon with an image of a traffic signal on it. “The traffic camera feature is loaded as a layer on the map-based site enabling end-users to select a camera based on its location on the map.” The highway department also created a video showing how to use the feature.
IDrive Arkansas offers users traffic flow reports and identifies construction zones, travel conditions and lists which highways are closed, including the reason for the closure. It also includes progress on existing highway projects paid for by the Connecting Arkansas Program and the Interstate Rehabilitation Program.
