Society of Manufacturing Engineers recognizes Little Rock engineer
Ashish Kumar Singh of Welspun Pipes Inc., in Little Rock has been recognized along with five other young professionals with the 2017 Outstanding Young Manufacturing Engineer Award by the Society of Manufacturing Engineers (SME).
Singh earned his master’s and doctorate degrees in mechanical and aerospace engineering at Oklahoma State University in 2014. He completed his bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering from Osmania University in India. His research focus during graduate studies was processing and characterization of iron-based bulk amorphous alloys.
Singh has worked on advanced materials processing like spark plasma sintering and laser processing of amorphous and nanocrystalline metals, alloys and ceramics. Currently, he is working in metallurgical engineering at Welspun Pipes, leading efforts in the development of high-strength, high-toughness, low-alloys API grade-line pipe steel using submerged arc welding (SAW) and electric resistance welding (ERW) techniques.
Singh is also a member of various technical committees for the American Welding Society. He has co-authored approximately 15 articles, presented his research work in multiple international conferences, and is a reviewer of many journals.
The awards were presented at the 2017 annual International Awards Gala on April 30 in Chicago. SME’s awards “acknowledge the profound impact made by the honorees in manufacturing technologies, processes, technical writing, education, research and management, as well as service to SME,” the organization stated in a press release.
