Affordable Care Act approval rating rises to 54%
Public support of the Affordable Care Act has risen to its highest level since it was approved seven years ago, according to Pew Research Center.
A total of 54% of the 1,503 adults surveyed by the research center support the 2010 healthcare law. The center conducted the survey Feb. 7-12. In December, 48% approved of the law, while 47% did not.
When those who disapprove of the law were asked about what should happen to it, about 25% “want Republican leaders to modify the law, while 17% want them to get rid of it entirely,” according to the research center.
Democratic support of the law fell to 73% in December, but has since increased to 85%. In October, 41% of independents approved of the law but now 53% of independents support it. Only 10% of Republicans approve of it, and there has been little change on this view.
In July 2010, the law had a 35% approval rating, and the second lowest approval rating was 37% in April 2014. In April 2016, 54% disapproved of the law, and the law previously had a 54% disapproval rating in December 2013, according to Pew Research Center.
