Ted Fox, 36, grew up on a farm in New Jersey and lived in New York, Chicago and North Carolina before settling in Bentonville in 1998.

After earning a bachelor’s degree in mass communications from Elon University in North Carolina, Fox began his professional career selling Bufferin and Ban Roll-On deodorant for Bristol-Myers Squibb.

He then worked in sales for Sola/Barnes-Hind, the contact lens-care company, and Oral-B, the dental-care division of Gillette Co.

At Sola/Barnes-Hind, one of Fox’s clients was Wal-Mart Stores Inc. Fox had been traveling to Bentonville since 1991 to service that account. While working for Gillette in 1998, he moved with his wife and twin children from North Carolina to Bentonville.

In 2000, he went to work for Pennzoil-Quaker State. He oversees 20 employees in the Bentonville office.

Fox serves on the board for the Boys and Girls Club of Benton County, which has four facilities where children can participate in everything from sports to homework. A $2.3 million capital campaign raised the money for a new Rogers club, which opened this spring.

“We’re serving more than 700 kids a day,” he said. “More than anything else, kids are our most precious resource.”
