Springdale Sams Club Construction to Begin
Two years after Wal-Mart Stores Inc. announced it was building a Sam’s Club warehouse store in Springdale — with a planned opening date of spring 2016 — construction finally appears imminent.
Earthmoving equipment and jobsite trailers have assembled at the construction site on South 56th Street west of Interstate 49, and, at our press deadline, a building permit valued at $11.3 million was awaiting payment at the city’s building inspection department. Crossland Construction Co. is the general contractor.
“Construction could start any day now on that project,” said Brian Nick, senior director of corporate communications for Walmart.
Crossland will also build an adjacent fueling station. Its building permit, with a $393,161 value, is also awaiting payment at the building department.
Sam’s Club acquired the land for the store in March 2015 — 67.5 acres for $11.7 million and an adjacent 2.9-acre parcel for $700,000.
