Property Rezone Decision Postponed in Highfill
The decision to rezone about 1,500 acres in Highfill from rural residential to industrial won’t come for at least another month.
The Highfill Planning Commission wants to do more due diligence about the proposal from Springdale developer Sam Mathias and Rogers attorney Sach Oliver, who are requesting the rezone on land they own just west of Northwest Arkansas Regional Airport.
The commission tabled the decision at its last meeting on July 26. They are scheduled to meet again Aug. 23.
Mathias owns 1,165 acres and Oliver owns an adjacent 336 acres. The land was acquired last year from Simmons Bank in separate deals for a combined $5.73 million.
Tom Hopper, chairman of Rogers engineering firm Crafton Tull, presented plans to the commission on behalf of Mathias and Oliver, saying only that the request is for future development.
About 40 people were in attendance at the meeting.
“From my perspective, I thought it was a very healthy discussion and well-received,” Oliver said.
