Smiley Face Returns To Wal-Mart Stores Inc.
Last month, Wal-Mart Stores Inc. announced the return of door greeters, and this month, the company said its yellow smiley face is making a comeback.
Judith McKenna, chief operating officer for Walmart, announced the return of smiley Wednesday morning at Walmart’s U.S. associates meeting, which is part of the company’s shareholders week events.
The smiley will be featured in Walmart’s ads airing throughout the summer.
“Nearly 70 percent of our customers still associate smiley with savings at Walmart even though he’s been behind the scenes for the past decade,” said Tony Rogers, chief marketing officer for Walmart.
In 1990, smiley was first introduced to young shoppers, who were given smiley stickers.
In 1996, the smiley became the face of rollbacks at Walmart.
“Back in the day, Smiley was the face of rollbacks,” Rogers said. “Today, he represents all low prices.”
