Former Springdale Developer, Business Leader Sandy Boone Dies at 93
Former Springdale businessman and real estate developer Joseph Stanford “Sandy” Boone died on March 31. He was 93.
Boone was known for his involvement in the Springdale community, for owning and operating a string of businesses over several decades, and for building several commercial mainstays in the city, including San Jose Manor and Shiloh Square on the north side of Emma Avenue in the 1970s, according to an email newsletter from the Springdale Chamber of Commerce.
“We will miss Sandy Boone,” chamber president Perry Webb said, according to the newsletter. “His close association with the chamber and with the Rodeo of the Ozarks is what I remember the most. He promoted Springdale at every opportunity. It is gratifying that our community is in the process of updating and renovating Shiloh Square — a downtown fixture made possible by Sandy.”
In addition to serving as the chamber’s board chairman and receiving its Civic Service Award in the 1970s, Boone was a founding board member of Springdale Memorial Hospital, a member of Springdale Kiwanis Club, and in 2005 received a lifetime achievement award from the Springdale mayor for his civic service, according to the newsletter.
He co-founded the American Paint Horse Association in 1962, was a member of the Springdale Riding Club, served on the Rodeo of the Ozarks board for four decades, was president of the Miss Rodeo America pageant from 1979 to 1981, and with chamber president Lee Zachary, moved the pageant’s headquarters to Springdale, according to the chamber newsletter.
Funeral arrangements have not been announced and will be handled by Sisco Funeral Chapel in Springdale.
