Glatfelters Purchase of Mistubishi Plant in Fort Smith Closes at $10.7M
Global manufacturer Glatfelter has completed its $10.7 million purchase of a 229-814-SF building in Fort Smith as it prepares to establish a new facility there by late 2017.
The paper products company announced March 1 its plans to locate a new manufacturing facility in the former Mitsubishi Power Systems Americas building located in the Chaffee Crossing economic development park.
Mitsubishi broke ground on the facility in late 2010, but it was never used and eventually shuttered in April 2012.
The property had been listed with Dallas-based real estate company CBRE since January 2015. According to Sebastian County property records, the 90 acre-site on Chad Colley Boulevard and 229-814-SF building was appraised in 2015 at $30.9 million.
Once the building is retrofitted, the plant would be Glatfelter’s 13th manufacturing plant around the world. The Fort Smith plant is expected to create 83 jobs.
