Tyson Foods Inc. has made a strategic acquisition in downtown Springdale, paying $350,000 for four parcels totaling a little more than an acre.

A Tyson Foods spokesman said the company has not yet finalized plans for the property. It currently includes multiple structures, notably an 11,300-SF building that houses the Discount Corner Flea Market.

The seller of the land? Frances Carpenter, who acquired the property in December 2000 for $85,000.

The site runs along Water Street in between Emma and Johnson avenues and sits across from a 28,000-SF building that previously housed Orscheln Home & Farm.

Tyson Foods bought the building on June 14, and is renovating it to become the Tyson Foods JTL Building, a hiring center and company store for its employees. About 75 people will work at the building beginning this spring.
