Dr. Ashok Subramanian, the dean and professor of business at Buena Vista University, has been hired to lead the College of Business at the University of Arkansas at Fort Smith.

Subramanian has 10 years of academic leadership, with three as a dean at BVU and seven as chair of the Information Systems Department at the University of Missouri at St. Louis. His appointment is effective March 1.

As dean at BVU, Subramanian led the redesign of the business curriculum and was involved in fundraising and development efforts, including involvement in the latest $30 million capital campaign concluded in 2013. Subramanian said he looked forward “to leading this progressive, talented and ambitious team of faculty and staff to achieve their aspirations.”

“I am delighted to join the university’s leadership team. With its recent accreditation by AACSB international, the College of Business has announced its intentions to be counted among the best business programs in the world,” Subramanian said. “The College of Business is a natural catalyst for meaningful and productive engagement with the Fort Smith business and civic communities. I envision a bright future where UAFS and the College of Business are woven into the fabric of business and civic life in the greater Fort Smith area, and help lead the way to economic and social prosperity for the region.”

Dr. Georgia Hale, provost and vice chancellor for academic affairs, said his leadership will “continue to elevate an already-prestigious college.”

Subramanian earned his bachelor’s degree in chemistry from the University of Bombay in India. He received his master’s and doctorate degrees in business administration from the University of Houston.
