Springdale Adopts Master Plan, Seven Years, $150M to Implement
The city of Springdale adopted an ambitious master plan for downtown that, if implemented to the fullest extent, would result in a new City Hall, a reimagined Thompson Street and Emma Avenue, expanded Luther George Park, and a new stock of urban housing.
Approved at a special meeting Dec. 16, the plan was created by HS Studio, a St. Louis-based design firm. Anchored around the Razorback Regional Greenway, the original Emma Avenue core, and the Jones Center for Families, the plan envisions an incremental upgrade and expansion of amenities in the arts, entertainment, retail, and office spaces.
HS Studio estimates that the plan, which covers over 565 acres from Huntsville Avenue south to Caudle Avenue, and from Thompson Street east to Old Missouri Road, would cost about $150 million to implement. The schedule ranges from ongoing for certain projects, to beyond seven years for others.
Additional elements central to the plan are Walter Turnbow Park, Shiloh Square, the Shiloh Museum of Ozark History, and the upcoming improvements made by Tyson Foods Inc., which has undertaken two major office renovation projects and has plans to move more than 300 employees to the Emma Avenue corridor.
