Forty Under 40: Mindy Campbell
Mindy Campbell knew during her senior year in high school at Fayetteville Christian School that she wanted to be an accountant.
She has always enjoyed math and was good at it, but more than anything she was inspired by a speech from an accounting professor who also happened to be a family friend.
The professor told her accounting was a good career for a mom, and that resonated with Campbell, because she prioritized becoming a wife and mother.
Her career aspirations brought her to Arkansas Tech University in Russellville, where she earned bachelor’s degrees in accounting and finance/economics (2004) and met her future husband, Ben.
To this day, doing right by her family is the biggest motivator for success in her career. She and her husband have two children, Zander, 7, and Zoey, 10 months.
After college, Campbell returned to Northwest Arkansas, taking a position at a small audit firm in Springdale called S.F. Fiser & Co. Inc.
In 2006, she joined Ozark Regional Transit as controller and was promoted to chief financial officer last year.
During Campbell’s time at the company, the number of transit vehicles and riders have increased substantially, and Campbell believes the expansion will continue.
“With the growth in the area, there is a desperate need for public transportation,” she said.
Meanwhile, Campbell is tasked with keeping ORT in compliance with state and federal agencies, in addition to handling accounting for the company.
Her favorite thing about her job, however, is the people. “We all work well together,” she said. “My boss always says we’re not siloed. We have to work together to succeed.”
Outside of her career, Campbell enjoys spending time with her family and is actively involved with Church Alive, where she is a member and part of the finance committee.
