Gap Closing at NWA Mall Leaves New Owners with Vacancy

You may have heard that San Francisco-based Gap Inc. is closing its Northwest Arkansas Mall location in Fayetteville.

The retail space, a staple of the Fayetteville mall since 1997, is slated to close Jan. 26, as is the mall’s GapKids store. That will leave the shopping center’s new owners (see our cover story) with a vacancy of a combined 9,788 SF to fill.

Total mall occupancy as of December was 97 percent.

In June, Gap announced it would shutter 175 specialty stores in North America over the next few years — about 140 of them occurring by Jan. 31, the end of the company’s fiscal year — as part of an “aggressive agenda designed to strengthen the brand” in its most successful locations, according to a news release.

The closings will leave Gap with about 500 specialty locations and 300 Gap outlet stores in North America.

That, of course, includes the location at Pinnacle Hills Promenade in Rogers.
