Burton receives first annual Sam M. Sicard leadership award

David Burton, an assistant vice president, purchasing and security officer with First National Bank of Fort Smith, has received the first annual Sam M. Sicard Community Leadership Award.

The award was presented by Sam T. Sicard, president and CEO of First National Bank, and son of the late Sam M. Sicard.

Building on his legacy of service to others, which will also be honored at the future U.S. Marshals Museum with the Sam M. Sicard Hall of Honor, the award was established to recognize a dedicated company team member for their role as a community leader and active volunteer. That leadership may be demonstrated in a variety of ways, through both formal and informal roles, including appointed, elected, or volunteer positions, dedication, inspiration, and impact on non-profits and the community.

Burton was recognized for his involvement in numerous community organizations. He most recently served as director and founder of the Fort Smith Dragon Boat Race benefiting The Hamilton House. He and his team of volunteers raised $40,457 and the event drew 20 teams of 21, along with a large number of spectators.

“Over the years he has always stepped up to volunteer in a leadership role,” Sam T. Sicard said in a statement. “But this year he really took it to the next level and started an event to raise money for a charity he is passionate about.”
