Celebrate the birthday of Judge Isaac C. Parker with birthday cake in the soda fountain at the Fort Smith Museum of History on Saturday, October 17, 1:00-3:00 pm.  Floyd and Sue Robison will portray Judge and Mrs. Isaac C. Parker and present programs on the Parker's time in Fort Smith and their roles as community leaders.  The programs are scheduled for 1:30 and 2:30 at the second floor courtroom exhibit.  The Robisons have researched the Parker’s extensively.  A special temporary exhibit will feature china bowls which belonged to the Parker's (courtesy of Floyd and Sue Robison) and Judge Parker's gold and diamond stickpin from the museum's collection.  The bowls were given to the Robisons by Jymmye Bercher, as longtime friend of Mary Clendening, the Parker's granddaughter.        

Judge Parker was born on October 15, 1838 in Barnesville, Ohio.  He studied law, passed the bar exam in 1859 and began his legal career in St. Joseph, Missouri.  Parker was elected United States Congressman from Missouri for two terms, 1871-1874.  Appointed by President Ulysses S. Grant in 1875, Isaac Parker began his famous tenure as Federal Judge for the Western District of Arkansas, a post he would hold until his death in 1896.

Celebrate the birthday of Fort Smith’s famous judge.  The party and programs are free with museum admission:  $5 adults, $2 children, under age six are free.
