United Way of Northwest Arkansas’ Gift in Kind Warehouse in Lowell distributed $23.7 million worth of product to those in need during the fiscal year that ended in June.

According to a press release from United Way NWA, a boost in donations resulted in a record volume of product distributed to its more than 120 nonprofit community partners.

Since the third quarter of 2014, United Way NWA’s warehouse has seen a growth trend of 73 percent increase in product distributed.

Each visit, an agency receives an average of about $600 worth of product. If an agency shops once per month, they receive an average of $7,200 in product in a year, according to the press release.

Nonprofit agencies and food banks that serve children and families in need access the warehouse weekly for critical basic need products such as paper goods, personal hygiene items, diapers, cleaning supplies and houseware items.

The program is made possible through a partnership with Wal-Mart Stores Inc., utilizing vendor products that have been returned, have a slight defect, or are marked by vendors to donate.
