2015 Internet Trends
In late May, Mary Meeker released her 2015 version of the Internet Trends, a 196-slide presentation.
“Kleiner Perkins partner Mary Meeker’s yearly Internet Trends report is the ultimate compilation of essential tech statistics. Encompassing everything from Snapchat to drones, smartphone penetration to on-demand food,” reported TechCrunch.
The guys at Geek Beat TV wrapped up the report focusing on eight slides that caught their attention.
Scott Ellis goes over the attention-getting slides in this video report below. Some things of interest include:
- We are spending twice as much time from 2008 to 2015 on digital media, from 2.7 hours to 5.6 hours.
- While entrepreneurs have made a big impact in certain private sectors, there is still room for growth in Business, Security, Education, Healthcare and Government.
- Instagram is the clear leader for 18-24 year olds in terms of use. Men’s use of Pinterest is up significantly.
Finally, two things of notice for entrepreneurs and business owners.
First, the report validates the significance of smart phones. From 2009 to 2015, the percent of usage in the United States jumped from 18% to 64%.
Second, there seems to be a big future for mobile advertisement.
“Mobile has a huge gap with far more engagement time relative to the ad dollars spent there. That equates to a $24 billion opportunity in mobile advertising.”
