Houston-based manufacturer Wyman-Gordon has started using NanoMech’s award-winning TuffTek cutting tools, the Springdale-based company announced on June 17.

Wyman-Gordon, a subsidiary of Portland, Oregon-based Precision Castparts Corp., makes complex metal parts for the aerospace industry and holds quality accreditations for all of the major airframe and engine manufacturers for both civil and military applications, according to a press release from NanoMech.

TuffTek cutting tools feature NanoMech’s patented, nano-engineered coating technology and can be used to cut titanium, high-nickel alloys, pre-hardened steel, hardened steels and cast iron.

The coating offers wear resistance, durability, and requires minimum lubrication, according to the press release.

TuffTek received an R&D 100 award in 2013, in addition to the silver Edison Award in processing materials and the Tibbetts Award from the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency, both in 2014.

The industry’s leading trade journal, Cutting Tool Engineering Magazine, has dubbed TuffTek as the “holy grail of coating,” according to the press release.
