Core Brewing Looks to Fort Smith For Distillery, Cooperage, Trade School
Core Brewing and Distilling Co. of Springdale is planning to open a distillery and cooperage at the building that formerly housed the Southwest Times Record press facility in downtown Fort Smith, according to a report published Thursday in the Times Record.
Citing Fort Smith senior planner Brenda Andrews, the Times Record reported that Core has submitted an application for a distillery at the 36,000-SF building. Owner and company founder Jesse Core is a Fort Smith native and graduate of Northside High School. Core recently opened a tap room, Core Public House, at 701 Rogers Ave.
According to the Times Record, Core is considering a partnership with the University of Arkansas at Fort Smith to offer a bachelor’s degree in brewing, distilling and cooperage, based out of the old Times Record building at 1000 Rogers Ave.
A public hearing on the Core proposals is schedule for Friday at 10 a.m. at the site.
