While Downtown Bentonville Inc. banks on producing its own events like First Friday to boost the downtown square, Main Street Rogers Inc., the independent nonprofit dedicated to promoting growth in downtown Rogers, is taking a different approach.

Main Street Rogers no longer hosts its monthly downtown festival, dubbed Third Friday. Executive director Dana Mather said the focus this year is on opening downtown to outside events.

“It’s working out really well,” she said. Local individuals and companies have produced diverse events so far this year that include Gospel Fest and the Hindu Association Festival of Colors. There were seven special events in May alone.

The new events are bringing fresh faces to the square, Mather said.

The Rogers Outdoor Market has been a highlight so far this year. The monthly event boasted 40 vendors and 1,500 patrons in May.
