The vacant Dwight’s Shopping Center in the 500 block of Holcomb Street in downtown Springdale is finally getting its facelift.

Owner Antonio Almaraz and his Almaraz Properties Inc. in May pulled two building permits totaling $230,000 for the remodeling of the interior and exterior.

While Almaraz could not be reached for comment, two construction workers at the site said there are plans to open a grocery store at the location.

Almaraz is a veteran grocer and owner of El Ranchito Super Mercado at 1900 Huntsville Ave. in Springdale. In 2011, he added 6,154 SF to the Huntsville location.

If the new market resembles El Ranchito, then it will have a deluxe produce section, meat case with butchers, and specialize in food stuffs from across Latin America.

Almaraz bought the 16,450-SF Dwight’s building, vacant for years, in January 2014 for $230,000. He also owns the La Espigo de Oro bakery building across the street.
