Beginning Backpacking Workshop…..

…… to be Held at Hobbs State Park

If you never knew how to get started having fun backpacking, an upcoming workshop at Hobbs State Park – Conservation Area may be just the thing for you.  The 4-hour workshop will be taught by seasoned backpacker Scott Branyan.  Scott has backpacked on all but about 100 miles of the Ozark Highland Trail, has made several solo backpacks in the Ozark National Forest, and completed numerous treks on the Lower Buffalo Wilderness Area.

The workshop is geared primarily towards adults/families.  This is a comprehensive, four-part, “how to” introduction with gear show-and-tell, slides, and recommended resources.  The four elements are:

• Tools and gadgets
Skills
• Food and cooking
• Selecting a campsite
• Navigation
• Safety
• Stream crossing
• Selecting a water source

• Survival situations
Practice
• Fire starting
• Using a stove
• Simple cooking and food sampling
• Pitching a tent
• Filtering and treating water

You need to bring nothing but a pen and pad with which to take notes

Time:  9:00 a.m. – 1:00 p.m.
Cost:  $40.00 + tax per person
