Walmarts Doug McMillon Headlines UA Emerging Trends in Retail Event
Wal-Mart Stores Inc. president and CEO Doug McMillon will be the keynote speaker at the Center for Retailing Excellence’s 15th annual Emerging Trends in Retail conference on June 11 at the Northwest Arkansas Convention Center in Springdale.
The conference will focus on the origins of retail, said Claudia Mobley, founding director of the CRE in the Sam M. Walton College of Business at the University of Arkansas.
Walton College alum McMillon has embraced the fundamental principles set forth by the industry’s pioneers, she said. “We are so excited to have Doug McMillon share his insights on the changing face of the retail industry. Doug began his career under the leadership of Sam Walton and holds his founding philosophy in high esteem.”
In his tenure as president and CEO since February 2014, McMillon has overseen changes in leadership, ongoing efforts to capture mobile shoppers, employee raises, and the ongoing expansion in China. After an entire career at Walmart, McMillon succeeded Mike Duke.
Judith McKenna, executive vice president and chief operating officer; Andy Murray, senior vice president of creative and former CEO of Saatchi & Saatchi X; Don Harris, retired executive vice president and chief merchandising officer; and Charles Redfield, Sam’s Club Inc. executive vice president of merchandising, will also speak at the event.
Other speakers are Marshal Cohen from The NPD Group; Leon Nicholas, senior vice president with Kantar Retail; Campbell Hyers, founding partner and CEO of the Control Group; and Scot Wingo, CEO of ChannelAdvisor.
Registration for the event is available at the CRE website, cre.uark.edu.
