Little Rock Port Authority Adopts Land Use Guidelines
The Little Rock Port Authority board of directors unanimously adopted a resolution supporting what it calls “appropriate land use and development on properties adjacent to and within the Little Rock Port Industrial Park.”
The resolution was adopted at a called meeting of the board on Friday.
The Little Rock Port is looking to expand into more space by acquiring new land. It has also been dealing with the contentious issue of the Quapaw Tribe’s application to place land adjacent to the Port into Federal Trust.
The tribe has not officially declared what it may use the land for, but city leaders are nervous that it could be for casino development.
The Little Rock Port Authority’s resolution also stated an intent to protect and preserve any cultural or archeological artifacts that may be found on future land purchases.
“The Little Rock Port Authority Board has always supported prospects that want to develop their lands in a manner that is consistent with our mission of creating jobs and economic growth. This resolution establishes a framework for the future and sets the appropriate parameters for the Port as we move forward with our expansion”, said Chris Mathews, Little Rock Port Authority Board Chairman.
