Courtyard By Marriott Coming To Jonesboro
A Jonesboro based real estate firm announced this week they are working with a Tennessee-based company to bring a five-story, 106-room hotel to Jonesboro.
Officials with Haag Brown Commercial said that Jackson, Tenn.-based Hunt Properties has purchased 2.28 acres of land at the traffic signal at the entrance of the NEA Baptist Healthcare System Campus on Highway 49 North on which they plan to construct a Courtyard by Marriott.
Haag Brown represented the seller, Highway 49 Properties, LLC, as well as the buyer, David Hunt of Hunt Properties and Hunt-Williams Development, LLC who will be developing the hotel.
“Any five story, 100+ room, new construction hotel is a big deal, but add Marriott to that equation and being at the physical entrance of a nearly $500 million medical campus and I think it is huge,” said Haag Brown Commercial Co-Owner and Principal Joshua Brown.
“This project will be an asset for the North Jonesboro market, especially for NEA Baptist,” noted Haag Brown Commercial Co-Owner and Principal Greg Haag. “It will represent a shift in commercial development to the east side of the medical campus towards Brookland.”
Hunt said there were several factors that contributed to the site location choice by Marriott.
“For starters, the overall economic forecast for Jonesboro is very positive. The medical community has unlimited long term potential and the Baptist Hospital is a great generator of hotel room occupancy,” said David Hunt of Hunt-Williams Development, LLC. “Finally, Jonesboro is simply a great community for investment.”
“We feel like this property is one of the best pieces of real estate in the area. With the controlled access, proximity to the healthcare campus and exposure to 22,000 commuters per day, it is the ideal site for an upscale hotel,” Brown said.
Jonesboro Regional Chamber of Commerce President Mark Young said the announcement provides another positive note for the Craighead County town.
“It is great news for Jonesboro and we appreciate the investment in our community,” Young said Friday after the NEA Political Animals club meeting in Jonesboro.
Construction is set to begin in the fall of 2015, with a projected open date of summer 2016.
