Picasolar Inc., a solar startup company affiliated with the University of Arkansas in Fayetteville, has been named a semifinalist for the 2015 Edison Awards.

As a semifinalist, Picasolar’s Hydrogen Super Emitter (HSE) will receive either the bronze, silver or gold medal in the Hydrogen Power subcategory under the award category of Energy & Sustainability.

The HSE process increases solar cell conversion efficiency, increasing the total watts produced, while saving money by reducing the use of silver in cell processing, according to the Picasolar website.

Other semifinalists in the Hydrogen Power subcategory include the automobile-powering Hyundai Tucson Fuel Cell by Hyundai Motor America and Upp, a power backup with USB ports, by Intelligent Energy.

The semifinalists will be recognized and medals will be given out during the Edison Awards annual gala on April 23, 2015, in the ballroom of The Capitale in New York City.

“The Edison Award is given to leaders in global innovation,” said Douglas Hutchings, Picasolar CEO. “It is extremely flattering to be recognized in the company of so many leaders in their respective fields and it helps us remain confident in our mission to enable cost-competitive solar everywhere.”
