Groundbreaking Scheduled for Fort Smith Osteopathic Project
The Arkansas Colleges of Health Education announced Monday that officials will break ground at 11 a.m. March 3 on the proposed Arkansas College of Osteopathic Medicine.
The site is at 7000 Chad Colley Blvd. in the Chaffee Crossing area of Fort Smith.
Beshears Construction Inc. of Fort Smith and Nabholz Construction Services of Conway are leading the construction of the 100,000-SF building, which will be the first building of the Arkansas Colleges of Health Education (ACHE) campus. The three-story building, designed by Risley & Associates of Fort Smith, will house the osteopathic school and the physician’s assistant school.
Upon its completion, the new osteopathic school would be Arkansas’ first college of osteopathic medicine and one of just 31 in the United States.
The school anticipates accepting its first class of students in the fall of 2016.
Kyle Parker, president and CEO of the ACHE, says the college will have an annual economic impact of $100 million on the Fort Smith region.
