Tour de Force
Whispers was surprised to learn that John La Tour, an arch Christian conservative with a pro-business platform, won the Ward 4 seat on the Fayetteville City Council by trouncing five other candidates.
La Tour, mind you, ran for alderman in response to the council’s passage of an ordinance that protects sexual orientation from discrimination.
La Tour said his ultimate goal as an alderman is to help field a freedom coalition that can unseat Mayor Lioneld Jordan, or beat any other liberals who happen to run, in 2016.
With his brand of Old Testament conservatism in a college town, it was no surprise his candidacy was opposed. Critics screamed bloody murder when it was learned that La Tour had received $2,000 in campaign contributions from Jim Bob and Michelle Duggar, and that he spent $17,395 on his own campaign.
And on two occasions, the Northwest Arkansas Business Journal received anonymous letters pointing to the fact that La Tour is not a licensed attorney in Arkansas. And he’s not. But he is a member of the State Bar of California, which gives him entrée to federal court.
When asked about the dustup over the Duggars and the questions about his campaign spending and status as an attorney, La Tour laughed and said, “The liberals will do anything they can to make me look bad.”
