The local business community continues to support the nonprofit Beaver Watershed Alliance, which represents a consortium of private and public entities, from water districts to corporations, that come together to support clean water.

The most recent donor was Cargill Cares — the employee-led philanthropy arm of the Cargill Meat Solutions facility in Springdale — which gave the alliance $4,500 to fund a portion of the Outdoor Watershed Education and Research Program. Last year, the program involved over 1,000 individuals and resulted in the removal of 14,000 pounds of trash from over 100 river miles.

The Cargill funds will also help support the Alliance’s programming in the War Eagle Watershed.

Notable supporters of the Alliance include Tyson Foods Inc., Pack Rat Outdoor Center, Farm Bureau, Butterball, AT&T, CH2MHill and The Walton Family Foundation.

According to the alliance’s website, the organization is developing an assessment and inventory of high-risk areas in the Beaver Lake Watershed, and in turn will place a priority on where improvements need to be made to attain maximum benefit for the region’s water quality.
The alliance is led by executive director John Pennington.
