Federal regulators have approved the construction of a new bank branch near downtown Bentonville for First National Bank of NWA, the bank announced Friday.

The banking office will be built at 402 S.W. A St., across the street from the Thrive mixed-use development under construction by ERC Cos.

The bank acquired a half-acre of land there in July for $635,000. A vacant residence currently sits on the property.

First National Bank of NWA, a division of The First National Bank of Fort Smith, currently has four local branches in Rogers (2), Lowell and Centerton.

The bank rebranded from First National Bank of Rogers in July.

“As promised, FNBNWA continues to show a commitment to our customers and community by providing more convenience and expanded services within our region,” Rob Husong, regional president, said in a news release. “We are also very excited to create more jobs and do our part to help our local economy. We look forward to building something in the Arts District that the residents of Bentonville will be proud of by constructing a building that will embody the direction and scope of the already changing downtown Bentonville area.”

Construction of the banking center should begin in the first quarter of 2015.

FNBNWA had $109.3 million in deposits in its four Benton County branches, as of June 30.
