Do you live big?  Is your life full of passion?  Are you looking for ways of expressing that passion?  If so, how about exploring opera?  Opera is full of big people with big lives, big emotion and beautiful music.    This class is designed to increase your knowledge and appreciation of one of the most beautiful musical art forms today. This class will explore the basics of the form, structure and history of opera.  We will also look at the singers – what is an operatic singing style and the different types of voices.   Several great operas will be discussed in terms of music, drama and stage settings.   Possibilities include “Le Nozze di Figaro”, “Tosca”, “Carmen”, “La Traviata” and more if time allows.  Examples of operas will be shown in class and there might even be a live performance.   This class will consist of two evening sessions.  Handouts will be provided.  Questions and lively discussions will be encouraged.
