In an effort to position the bank for growth, First National Bank of Green Forest president and CEO Steve Stafford said Tuesday the bank has changed its name to Anstaff Bank.

Customers can expect to see new signage and a new logo by the end of the month.

Ownership, management and staff of the bank won’t be effected by the rebranding.

“It’s something we felt like we needed to do, but it’s difficult because we’ve been the First National Bank of Green Forest for 83 years,” Stafford said. “But we realize that times have changed and banking has changed and we need to change with them.”

Stafford said the name is reflective of two families — Anderson and Stafford — who organized the bank in 1931 and continue to hold key leadership roles.

Stafford has been the bank’s president since 1979. He followed Ray Anderson, who held the job since 1942.

Anderson’s nephew, Tommy Anderson, is today one of the bank’s directors.

Stafford’s great-great grandfather, John Stafford, was an original shareholder in the bank, and his grandfather (Logan Stafford), father (J.F. Stafford) and uncle (Clyde Stafford) were all active through the years.

The bank, according to the FDIC, had assets of $400.8 million as of March 31, an increase of about six percent from the previous year.

It has branch locations in Carroll, Boone, Madison and Newton counties.
