An American in Venice: James McNeill Whistler and His Legacy

In 1879 American artist James McNeill Whistler arrived in Italy with a commission from the Fine Arts Society of London to create twelve etchings of Venice. Over the ensuing fourteen months the artist produced a body of prints that are among the most important of his career. This exhibit showcases these works, as well as the work of his followers who were practicing in Italy in the late-nineteenth and early-twentieth centuries.

An American in Venice: James McNeill Whistler and His Legacy will be on display at the Fort Smith Regional Art Museum from October 3, 2014 – January 4, 2015. Admission to the museum is free for everyone, and we are open Tuesday – Saturday from 11am – 6pm and Sunday from 1pm – 5pm.
