Sterling Endorses Rutledge In Attorney General’s Race
After a contentious, bitter Republican primary, runner-up David Sterling announced on Sunday that he endorsed Leslie Rutledge, the GOP nominee for Attorney General.
“I want you to know that I am excited to support Leslie Rutledge, my former opponent, as she attempts to become the first Republican Attorney General in Arkansas history,” Sterling said in an email to his supporters.
“The stakes are too high to stop fighting. This is why I am writing Leslie a $250.00 check, and I hope you will consider making a donation to her campaign as well,” he added.
Rutledge defeated Sterling 59-41% in Tuesday’s run-off election. She faces Democrat Nate Steel and Libertarian Aaron Cash in the fall.
Sterling benefited from hundreds of thousands of dollars of advertising and direct mail support from two outside groups, American Future Fund and Judicial Crisis Network.
In the ads and mailers, Sterling’s candidacy was promoted for a “stand your ground” gun law, while Rutledge was blistered in an effort to tie her positions to Pres. Obama and former House Speaker Nancy Pelosi.
When asked at the time about the negative campaign ads, Sterling said there was nothing inaccurate about them.
