The Associated General Contractors of America said May 2 that the construction industry employed six million people in the month of April, the highest level since June 2009.

Citing an analysis of federal data, the AGC said the unemployment rate in construction dropped to the lowest April level in seven years.

Total construction employment rose 3.3 percent compared with April 2013.

Residential building and trade contractors added 13,100 workers in April and 107,900 over the past 12 months. Nonresidential construction grew by 18,600 employees last month and 81,300 since April 2013, the AGC said.
