May marks Arkansas Heritage month. Across the state of Arkansas, residents are celebrating the state’s natural and cultural resources. Its physical beauty, musical influence, folk arts, fine arts, social and political history all make for a colorful and unique heritage worth celebrating. The Department of Arkansas Heritage sets aside the month of May each year as a time to recognize and appreciate Arkansas's cultural and natural heritage. http://www.arkansasheritage.com/plan/heritage_month.aspx.

In Northwest Arkansas, Washington Elementary School will host its 11thAnnual Tour of Homes fundraiser and invites Arkansans to enjoy Spring in the Ozarks through this relaxing, self-guided tour.

Washington Elementary Parent Teacher Organization (PTO) will host the event. Tickets purchased prior to the event are $20 and are available at Washington Elementary School (WES) school office or locally through area merchants French Metro Antiques, The Gift House, or the Downtown Bank of Fayetteville.

“This fundraiser is an important annual event as it links the community and the school together while providing area residents with a glimpse in to some of the most beautiful and often historic homes in our school district,” explained event chair and PTO mom Melissa Werner.

Tickets can also be purchased the day of the event at any of the seven homes participating in the self-guided tour. Event day tickets are $25. Homes represent architectural periods spanning the early-1930s through present and showcase period homes to modern condominiums. The tour includes:

In fact, past TOH funds have helped build a climbing wall for the gym, update the music room and provide important and nutritious snacks for the various after school programs. A recent focus of the school’s PTO has been on technology and equipping the school with the technology necessary for the instruction of the students.

Sponsors for this year’s Tour are Clark Partners Realty Group, Collier Drug Stores, Eureka Pizza, CitiScapes Magazine, Harness Roofing, Home Energy Rx, Mosaic, The Dickson, and Southern Graphic Services.
