The University of Arkansas at Fort Smith has announced that a University of Akron vice president will join the UAFS staff, starting June 1.

According to a press release, Julie L. Burdick, currently the associate vice president for academic affairs at The University of Akron, will join UAFS as vice chancellor for enrollment management.

In her new position, Burdick will have oversight for the offices of admissions, financial aid, career services, academic advising, international programs, testing and the registrar.

“The addition of Julie Burdick to the senior staff at UAFS is an important hire for us,” said UAFS Chancellor Dr. Paul Beran. “I believe her credentials and experience will help us position the institution to further meet the needs of students throughout this region. She is bringing to us her proven success in the field of enrollment management, and she has the background and leadership abilities to develop for UAFS a high-quality, evidence-based enrollment and retention program.”

Burdick said she was looking forward to assuming her new position this summer, adding that it was an opportunity to increase "student success" at UAFS.

UAFS is truly a destination campus and has a reputation of providing a transformational experience for students, preparing them for successful and meaningful careers,” she added. “I leave The University of Akron with much appreciation and gratitude to President Luis Proenza and Provost Mike Sherman for all that I have learned about leading higher education initiatives. My husband, Gordon Strauss, and I are looking forward to our move to Fort Smith and getting settled in this beautiful area.”

Burdick holds a bachelor's degree in marketing and management from Miami University of Ohio, as well as an MBA from Xavier University in Cincinnati.
