Cook: Dustin McDaniel’s Next Run For Office Revealed
Dustin McDaniel is in his final nine months as Attorney General and political observers wonder how he plans to stay involved in politics after he leaves office.
In a letter to members of the Democratic Party of Arkansas’s State Committee last week McDaniel revealed some his future plans. McDaniel is running to become the National Committeeman to the Democratic National Committee.
Don Beavers had been the DPA’s National Committeeman for many years but he recently resigned after many years of service to his party.
The National Committeeman is one of Arkansas’s two votes on the Democratic National Committee and is automatically a delegate to the 2016 Democratic National Convention.
McDaniel’s letter outlines his numerous Democratic bona fides, in addition to his being a statewide elected official. McDaniel already has experience with national Democrats by previously serving on the DNC as a representative of the Democratic Attorneys General Association.
The election for National Committeeman is on March 15th in Pine Bluff at the DPA’s next State Committee meeting. Frankly, I doubt McDaniel gets an opponent for the office.
Running for National Committeeman is a clear signal by Dustin McDaniel that he plans to stay involved in Arkansas politics in some capacity.
